DAILY MAIL - 25 Nov 2002

Suzie Meighan 32 year old PR lost a stone in six weeks and 16cm from her waist and hips after having hypnotherapy with Marisa Peer.

I had no willpower when it came to food and diets. Some days I would stuff my face, others I would starve and then rifle through the cupboards. It was only when my back began to hurt and I got two dress sizes bigger that I knew I had to do something. I didn't want to go on a crash diet, though, or one that would stop my social life or interfere with my wine habits. Life's too short. Friends who had quit smoking told me about Marisa Peer a hypnotherapist so, because that option didn't sound to stressful I went along to see her. Its an interesting therapy because Marisa changes your way of thinking. She makes a tape of the session so you can listen to it when you need to.

I visited her a few times and each time the treatment was different although she always hypnotised me. Mostly we talked about my attitude to food. Sometimes we also played mind games to show me just how strong my mind was. We also discussed the terminology of dieting - why "letting go" is more positive than 'losing weight'. It was all so fascinating, not only because we went back to the eating habits of my childhood, but because Marisa examined all the excuses I make to avoid eating healthily. For example I've always said I don't have time to prepare food in a healthy way. She taught me to steam food and gave me some excellent practical suggestions for quick non-fattening dishes. She's also changed my perception of certain foods. Now, instead of looking at crisps or chocolate and thinking "I want some" I can look at them for what they are and analyse if I really want them. I don't beat myself up about food but all the old cravings have totally gone and I feel completely in control. I am thrilled with the results and how easy it is I am going to continue playing her tape until I let go of another stone.
